    Desk mass simplicity

Posted by Unknown Posted on 11:09 AM with No comments

Materials: CAPITA 21cm x4, EKBY LAIVA, EKBY AMUND

Description: I thought my desk needed more organization, everything just seemed like it was everywhere. So after seeing a few hacks after a friend suggested this site to me I decided to try a project out for myself.

After a week of planning I didn't realize that the 21cm CAPITA's were really tall but luckily my desk space is 210cm x 100cm so having such tall partitions weren't so bad after all.

    The materials needed were:

    CAPITA 21cm x4 ($30.00ea AUD)
    EKBY LAIVA x2 ($4.95ea AUD)
    EKBY AMUND x1 ($29.99 AUD)

I attached 4 CAPITA legs to the bottom corners of both LAIVA's. Which was simple enough.

The next bit was a little trickier. The AMUND is quite long, 150cm so I needed the extra legs. Currently I've got a 32" LCD resting on it including the PS3 and Nikon gear. It needed to be solid. You can see the two extra legs I attached to the left of the main monitor. I've also attached one directly behind the main monitor to support the TV. What I did not take a picture of was a 8cm deep, 4cm wide chunk of wood I cut out directly behind the monitor so the irremovable mount behind it could fit in so the monitor was up against the AMUND to create a little more desk space.

All in all, I've even got more stuff on the desk now but it looks so much tidier and surprisingly I've got mode desk space to work with.

I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoy my new found workspace :)

    Vika Amon, Hacked

Posted by Unknown Posted on 4:52 AM with No comments

Materials: Vika Amon and Capita Legs

Description: Step 1: Search tirelessly over the internet for a coffee table that will be just right for your space.

    Step 2:Fail at step 1

Step 3:Browse Ikea countertops looking for a nice wood selection.

Step 4: Browse legs and determine that straight legs are boring.

Step 5: Notice the Vika Amon table top is 1/4 the price of the counter tops.

Step 6: Uniquely marry the Viko Amon Table top and the slanted Capita legs into a unique coffee table.

When joining the legs, drill a hole straight through the bottom table top.

The thickness of the table pairs perfectly with the length of the "ready-rod" which allows you to sandwich the bottom shelf by joining the legs together through the shelf. Don't over tighten as you might scratch the table top, or if you drilled in an area without backing, crack it even.

I recommend drilling where there is backing, but in order to get a funky look you may have to offset it a bit.

    A better computer desk shelf

Posted by Unknown Posted on 8:34 AM with No comments

Materials: Ekby Laiva shelf, 4" Capita legs, 4 bolts, wood putty, sand paper, flat black paint

Description: Mark and drill four 3/8" holes. Use wood putty to finish bare edge of shelf (if it will be seen) sand and paint. Use the four bolts to secure the Capita legs to the shelf. This looks much nicer than using the Capita brackets.

Stairs and hanging bamboo plates for boat

Posted by Unknown Posted on 1:48 PM with No comments

    Materials: Capita

Description: Things for boats cost a fortune and as we are rebuilding an old boat to live in so we needed to come up with creative solutions.

The new stair is built from Ikea's Capita brackets and hard wood.

It has a round finish and nice edges as well as slide proofing so no one falls down.

It has been fixed with holes in the floor and in the wall so it's going no where.

We really love is it matches the rest of the room perfectly.

As for the hanging plates, due to the move to the boat, I ended up with two Hultet dishes which I could not fit in anywhere. But I needed storage in the kitchen. We drilled 3 holes at the edges and secured the knots by melting the nylon rope used to hang them.

It works perfectly for veggies, fruit and bread.

See more of the Capita stairs and hanging bamboo plate.

Double desk, light and full of storage space

Posted by Unknown Posted on 8:04 AM with No comments

    Materials: Vika Alex, Capita, Micke

Description: My girlfriend needed to have her own space, but I needed to have a place for my Personal Computer.

I found the creative-ikea-desk on Ikeahackers, and it gave me inspiration.

So I used 2 MICKE drawer units for the both ends of the workstation, and VIKA ALEX in the middle to hide my personal computer.

Thanks to capita legs I have been able to add a table top above the 3 consoles.

    The next steps are :

    - A USB hub encased in the shelf
    - Ventilate the console hosting the PC.
