Toddler Patio Set

Materials: Latt Table and Chair Set, Outdoor Fabric, Weather Proof Foam

Description: Purchased the Latt set from Ikea, then went to Joan Fabrics and purchased the weather proof foam 1" thick (Soft and Crafty) for $8.99 bought 2, purchased Outdoor fabric (about 2ft), and outdoor spray paint.

I spray painted the table and chairs

I glued the foam to the center part of the chair leaving 1/2" all around to allow to slide back in and then upholstered it with the outdoor fabric. Then I slid it into place.

I painted the middle part of the table let it dry and then painted it with polyurethane.

Upholstered Latt Chairs

Materials: Latt children's table, plywood, foam, spray paint, and screws

Description: We got the Latt table for our two year old but the edge of the chairs looked so uncomfortable for chubby little toddler thighs so I decided to upholster it. I didn't really know how to go about this so I flipped over one of my dining room chairs to see how they were done and just copied that.


First I cut out a piece of thin plywood to fit on top of the entire seat of the chair. Then I cut out and glued a piece of one inch thick foam to the plywood. I cut the foam 1/4 an inch bigger on all sides because it shrinks a little when you wrap the fabric around it. For the fabric I picked a plasticky tablecloth material so it would be easy to wipe clean.

I cut the fabric roughly to size and then stapled it to the underside of the plywood pulling it tight as I went and adding more staples as needed. Next I spray painted the chairs glossy white to match my kitchen.

I haven't gotten around to painting the table yet but I will someday. To attach the board and cushion to the chair I used two screws up through the brace under the Latt chair and in to the plywood. We tried several screw types but 1" slightly pointy ones worked best. To be honest I don't think my son even notices a difference but I think they are fantastic.

Children's arts and crafts table

Materials: 2 LATT children's tables (Ikea), 1 MALA tabletop paper holder (Ikea), 1 BYGEL rail and 4 BYGEL containers, 2 1/2 inch screws with nuts, chalkboard paint

Description: We were looking for an inexpensive place for our little ones to have a nice space to do arts and crafts. We had one LATT table that they use primarily for eating, but it was not big enough for both of them to spread out their crayons, paints and papers. I finally got sick of cleaning glue out of the carpet, so we headed to Ikea to see if we could figure something out.

First, we painted half of each of the LATT tables with chalkboard paint for a ready-made creative surface.

Then, we placed the two tables end-to-end and attached them with nuts and bolts on the underside of the adjoining table edge.

We pried apart the base of the MALA tabletop paper holder, leaving the wooden pegs exposed. Then, we drilled corresponding holes into the sides of the LATT table and inserted the pegs (fortified by Gorilla Glue).

Finally, we installed the BYGEL rail on the side opposite the paper holder and hung the containers, full of crayons, markers, chalk and other fun stuff.

Our kids absolutely love the table, there's no more glue on the floor and no one is battling for space any more.

Super Indestructable Kids Table

Materials: LATT Children's Table and Chairs

Description: We have the slightly older version of these, the slatted ones. I LOVED the little table and chairs, but really hated how dirty it got and how hard it was to clean. So my husband talked to a friend, and this was the AMAZING result.

Step 1. Assemble the table and chairs.
Step 2. Sand down any rough/uneven spots (If the table or chairs has been used then clean thoroughly!!)

Step 3. Talk to auto body places to get the best quote on bed-liner/rhino-liner.
Step 4. Have them spray the liner color of your choice and let it cure.
(Option: You can also buy the kits to do this yourself for between $15 -35, we just happened to have a friend with a shop that does this.)
Step 5. Enjoy your completely water, food, marker, crayon, glue, and generalized gunk proof table and chairs!

My 6 year old totally loves these and they are pretty much indestructible. ENJOY! :)

Description: With 4 (yes four!) Ikeas in Berlin we can't help but poke through the As-is section(s) on a regular basis and pick-up a bargain or three. *even if the As-is turns up nothing we always manage to find a deal in another area, especially since discovering the awesomeness that is Ikea Hackers - Your wondrous collection of creativity inspired us to hack these beauties for our little munchkin!
