    1. cancer lenalidomide

Lenalidomide is a drug that is similar to thalidomide, and is used with another drug to treat multiple myeloma and certain types of anemia. It is being studied in the treatment of other conditions and types of cancer. Lenalidomide may help the immune system kill abnormal blood cells or cancer cells. It may also prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. It is a type of antiangiogenesis agent and a type of immunomodulating agent. Also called CC-5013 and Revlimid. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.

Also called Kahler disease, myelomatosis, and plasma cell myeloma. Therapy, treatment. Bone marrow is the soft, sponge-like tissue in the center of most bones. It produces white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.

      • Finally, it could seem apparant that, furthermore, since NF-B regulates critical genes associated with inflammation and cancer metastases , we investigated whether lenalidomide could also modulate the NF-Bmediated pathway. Modulate, to adjust, or change. Inflammation, redness, swelling, pain, and/or a feeling of heat in an area of the body. This is a protective reaction to injury, disease, or irritation of the tissues.

      • One can view, patients with advanced-stage follicular lymphomaa cancer generally considered incurablewho had not been previously treated with any other form of therapy received a single course of treatment with the Bexxar therapeutic regimen, a radioactive antibody injected into the bloodstream that targets and kills cancer cells. Of the 76 patients enrolled in the study, 95 percent responded to the treatment, and 75 percent had a complete response, meaning no evidence of cancer remained. Antibody is a protein made by plasma cells (a type of white blood cell) in response to an antigen (a substance that causes the body to make a specific immune response). Each antibody can bind to only one specific antigen. The purpose of this binding is to help destroy the antigen. Some antibodies destroy antigens directly. Others make it easier for white blood cells to destroy the antigen. An antibody is a type of immunoglobulin. Therapeutic, having to do with treating disease and helping healing take place. Stage is the extent of a cancer in the body. Staging is usually based on the size of the tumor, whether lymph nodes contain cancer, and whether the cancer has spread from the original site to other parts of the body. Response is in medicine, an improvement related to treatment. Therapy, treatment. Complete response is the disappearance of all signs of cancer in response to treatment. This does not always mean the cancer has been cured. Also called complete remission. Radioactive, giving off radiation.

      • Finally, you can determine, the BEXXAR therapeutic regimen represents a new generation of cancer treatments because it is targeted specifically at non-Hodgkins lymphoma cells, is given at a dose tailored for each individual patient, and is delivered in a short treatment course, said Debra Frei-Lahr, M.D., an MUSC medical oncologist and hematologist. Most important, BEXXAR allows us to offer real hope to patients with follicular non-Hodgkins lymphoma who have exhausted other options. Oncologist is a doctor who specializes in treating cancer. Some oncologists specialize in a particular type of cancer treatment. For example, a radiation oncologist specializes in treating cancer with radiation. Hematologist is a doctor who specializes in treating blood disorders. Lung cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. These types are diagnosed based on how the cells look under a microscope. Odds ratio is a measure of the odds of an event happening in one group compared to the odds of the same event happening in another group. In cancer research, odds ratios are most often used in case-control (backward looking) studies to find out if being exposed to a certain substance or other factor increases the risk of cancer. For example, researchers may study a group of individuals with cancer (cases) and another group without cancer (controls) to see how many people in each group were exposed to a certain substance or factor. They calculate the odds of exposure in both groups and then compare the odds. An odds ratio of one means that both groups had the same odds of exposure and, therefore, the exposure probably does not increase the risk of cancer. An odds ratio of greater than one means that the exposure may increase the risk of cancer, and an odds ratio of less than one means that the exposure may reduce the risk of cancer. Also called relative odds. Lung, one of a pair of organs in the chest that supplies the body with oxygen, and removes carbon dioxide from the body.
