Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D. Calcitriol is formed in the kidneys or made in the laboratory. It is used as a drug to increase calcium levels in the body in order to treat skeletal and tissue-related calcium deficiencies caused by kidney or thyroid disorders. Prostate cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland (i.e., glandula) in the male (i.e., masculine) reproductive system (i.e., genital system) found below the bladder and in front of the rectum). Prostate cancer usually occurs in older men. Dialysis is the process (i.e., processus) of filtering the blood when the kidneys are not able to cleanse it. Kidney, one of a pair of organs in the abdomen (i.e., venter). The kidneys remove waste and extra water (i.e., aromatic water) from the blood (as urine) and help keep chemicals (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium) balanced in the body. The kidneys also make hormones that help control blood pressure and stimulate bone marrow to make red blood cells. Oral, by or having to do with the mouth (i.e., oral cavity, or ostium). Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate surrounds the part of the urethra (the tube (i.e., tuba) that empties the bladder) just below the bladder, and produces a fluid that forms part of the semen (i.e., seed, or seminal fluid). Off-label, describes the legal use of a prescription drug to treat a disease or condition for which the drug has not been approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
