Preview- One can recognize, about fivepercent of all breast (i.e., mamma, or teat) cancers and ten percent of all ovarian cancers are associated with bingle-gene (i.e., factor) inherited changes (mutations), primarily in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Ovarian, having to do with the ovaries, the female reproductive glands in which the ova (eggs) are formed. The ovaries are located in the pelvis, one on each side of the uterus (i.e., metra, or womb). Breast, glandular (i.e., glandulous) organ (i.e., organum, or organon) located on the chest (i.e., pectus). The breast is made up of connective tissue (i.e., interstitial tissue, or supporting tissue), fat (i.e., adipose tissue), and breast tissue that contains the glands that can make milk (i.e., strip, or lac). Also called mammary gland (i.e., glandula mammaria, or lactiferous gland). BRCA1 is a gene on chromosome 17 that normally helps to suppress cell growth. A person who inherits certain mutations (changes) in a BRCA1 gene has a higher risk of getting breast, ovarian, prostate (i.e., prostata, or glandula prostatica), and other types of cancer. ALL is an aggressive (fast-growing) type of leukemia (i.e., leukocytic sarcoma) (blood (i.e., haema) cancer) in which too many lymphoblasts (immature white (i.e., albicans) blood cells) are found in the blood and bone (i.e., os) marrow (i.e., medulla ossium). Also called acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia (i.e., lymphatic leukemia, or lymphoid leukemia). Inherited, transmitted through genes that have been passed from parents to their offspring (children). BRCA2 is a gene on chromosome 13 that normally helps to suppress cell growth. A person who inherits certain mutations (changes) in a BRCA2 gene has a higher risk of getting breast, ovarian, prostate, and other types of cancer. Gene is the functional and physical unit of heredity passed from parent to offspring. Genes are pieces of DNA, and most genes contain the information for making a specific protein.
- It could seem to be apparant that, genetics and Cancer in Individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish Inheritance. Genetics is the study of genes and heredity. Heredity is the passing of genetic information and traits (such as eye (i.e., oculus) color and an increased chance of getting a certain disease (i.e., illness, or morbus)) from parents to offspring.
