Essential thrombocythemia is an increased number of thrombocytes (platelets) in the blood, without a known cause. Also called essential thrombocytosis (i.e., thrombocythemia). Diagnosis is the process (i.e., processus) of identifying a disease, such as cancer, from its signs and symptoms.

      • One can conclude that, leukemic transformation (i.e., metamorphosis) of chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis (CIMF) to acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is rare. Transformation is in medicine, the change that a normal cell undergoes as it becomes malignant. Leukemia, cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of blood cells to be produced and enter the bloodstream. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is an aggressive (fast-growing) type of leukemia (blood cancer) in which too many lymphoblasts (immature white blood cells) are found in the blood and bone marrow. Also called acute lymphocytic leukemia and ALL. Acute, symptoms or signs that begin and worsen quickly; not chronic. Lymphoblastic, refers to lymphoblasts (a type of immature white blood cell).
