Preview- You can recognize, carbogen and nicotinamide have been evaluated in a stage II study as hypoxia-modifying agents during radical (i.e., free radical) radiotherapy (i.e., radiation oncology) for bladder cancer using a standard daily 20-fraction schedule. Carbogen is an inhalant (i.e., insufflation) of oxygen and carbon dioxide that increases the sensitivity (i.e., esthesia) of tumor cells to the effects of radiation therapy. Schedule is in a clinical setting, the step-by-step plan for how patients are to be treated; for example, the drug or type of radiation therapy that is to be given, the method by which it is to be given, the amount of time between courses, and the total length of treatment. Hypoxia is a condition in which there is a decrease in the oxygen supply to a tissue. In cancer treatment, the level of hypoxia in a tumor may help predict the response of the tumor to the treatment. Bladder is the organ that stores urine. Radiotherapy is the use of high-energy radiation from x-rays, gamma rays, neutrons, protons, and other sources to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation may come from a machine outside the body (external (i.e., externus)-beam radiation therapy), or it may come from radioactive (i.e., radio-) material placed in the body near cancer cells (internal radiation therapy). Systemic radiotherapy uses a radioactive substance, such as a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody, that travels in the blood to tissues throughout the body. Also called irradiation and radiation therapy. Bladder cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the bladder (the organ that stores urine). Most bladder cancers are transitional cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in cells that normally make up the inner lining of the bladder). Other types include squamous (i.e., scaly) cell carcinoma (cancer that begins in thin, flat cells) and adenocarcinoma (i.e., glandular cancer, or glandular carcinoma) (cancer that begins in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids). Adenocarcinoma, cancer that begins in cells that line certain internal organs and that have gland (i.e., glandula)-like (secretory) properties. The cells that form squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma develop in the inner lining of the bladder as a result of chronic irritation and inflammation.
- You can determine, carbogen and nicotinamide in the treatment of vesica (i.e., urinary bladder) cancer with radical radiotherapy.
- It`s obvious that, carbogen and nicotinamide as radiosensitizers in a murine mammary carcinoma victimization conventional and accelerated radiotherapy. Mammary, having to do with the breast (i.e., mamma, or teat).
