      • It is clear that, concordance and validation study of sentinel lymph node (i.e., nodus lymphoideus, or lymphonodus) (i.e., nodus) (i.e., sentinel gland, or sentinel node) biopsy for breast (i.e., mamma, or teat) cancer using subareolar injectant of blue (i.e., cerulean) dye and technetium 99m sulfur colloid (i.e., colloidin). Sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node to which cancer is likely to spread from the primary tumor (i.e., neoplasm). When cancer spreads, the cancer cells may appear first in the sentinel node (i.e., sentinel lymph node) before spreading to other lymph nodes. Sentinel lymph node biopsy, removal and examination of the sentinel node(s) (the number one lymph node(s) to which cancer cells are likely to spread from a primary tumor). To identify the sentinel lymph node(s), the operating surgeon injects a radioactive (i.e., radio-) substance, blue dye, or both near the tumor. The operating surgeon then uses a probe to find the sentinel lymph node(s) containing the radioactive substance or looks for the lymph node(s) stained with dye. The surgeon then removes the sentinel node(s) to check for the presence of cancer cells. Lymph is the clear fluid that travels through the lymphatic (i.e., vas lymphaticum) system and carries cells that help fight infections and other diseases. Also called lymphatic fluid. Biopsy is the removal of cells or tissues for examination by a pathologist. The pathologist may study the tissue under a microscope or perform other tests on the cells or tissue. There are many different types of biopsy procedures. The most common types include: (1) incisional biopsy, in which only a sample of tissue is removed; (2) excisional biopsy, in which an entire lump or suspicious area is removed; and (3) needle biopsy (i.e., aspiration biopsy), in which a sample of tissue or fluid is removed with a needle. When a wide needle is used, the procedure is called a core biopsy. When a thin needle is used, the procedure is called a fine-needle aspiration biopsy (i.e., fine-needle biopsy) (i.e., needle biopsy). Lymph node is a rounded mass of lymphatic tissue that is surrounded by a capsule of connective tissue (i.e., interstitial tissue, or supporting tissue). Lymph nodes filter (i.e., filtrum) lymph (lymphatic fluid), and they store lymphocytes (white (i.e., albicans) blood cells). They are located along lymphatic vessels (i.e., lymph vessels). Also called lymph gland (i.e., lymph node) (i.e., glandula). Breast cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk (i.e., strip, or lac) to the nipple (i.e., papilla mammae, or mammilla)) and lobules (glands that make milk). It occurs in both men and women, although male (i.e., masculine) breast (i.e., mamma masculina, or mamma virilis) cancer is rare. Breast, glandular (i.e., glandulous) organ located on the chest (i.e., pectus). The breast is made up of connective tissue, fat, and breast tissue that contains the glands that can make milk. Also called mammary gland (i.e., glandula mammaria, or lactiferous gland).
