- cancer plexopathy
Plexopathy is a disorder affecting a network of nerves, blood vessels, or lymph vessels. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- One can determine, however, at these levels of dose, there is a relatively steep increase in the risk of complications. The price of reducing dose in order to reduce the risk of major morbidity is an increase in the risk of loco-regional recurrence and possibly an increase in cancer related plexopathy. Recurrence, cancer that has recurred (come back), usually after a period of time during which the cancer could not be detected. The cancer may come back to the same place as the original (primary) tumor or to another place in the body. Also called recurrent cancer. Regional is in oncology, describes the body area right around a tumor. Morbidity is a disease or the incidence of disease within a population. Morbidity also refers to adverse effects caused by a treatment.
- It could seem to be apparant that, it is anticipated that the peak incidence of RIBP in the UK has been reached, possibly related to changes in technique over the late 70s and early 80s, but this is only conjecture and will be examined by the formal audit being conducted by Doctor Bates and Doctor Evans for the Royal College of Radiologists; however, it is also possible that the trend away from supraclavicular fossa and axillary radiotherapy could lead to more cancer related plexopathy. In view of the uncertainty as to which patients benefit from nodal radiotherapy, it is essential that treatment options are discussed carefully with appropriate specialists. Radiotherapy is the use of high-energy radiation from x-rays, gamma rays, neutrons, protons, and other sources to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation may come from a machine outside the body (external-beam radiation therapy), or it may come from radioactive material placed in the body near cancer cells (internal radiation therapy). Systemic radiotherapy uses a radioactive substance, such as a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody, that travels in the blood to tissues throughout the body. Also called irradiation and radiation therapy. Axillary, pertaining to the armpit area, including the lymph nodes that are located there. Incidence is the number of new cases of a disease diagnosed each year.
- It`s possible to notice, in patients with cancer and plexopathy following radiation therapy, imaging features that favor recurrent tumor are nonuniform, asymmetric, diffuse or focal enlargement, especially the presence of an eccentric mass with
