- cancer immunodeficiency
Immunodeficiency is the decreased ability of the body to fight infections and other diseases. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- For example, the most common symptom is vulvar itching; there can also be pain, bleeding, vaginal discharge and/or pain during urination. Risk factors include being older, and having a history of infection with certain human papillomaviruses (HPV (Infection Human Papillomavirus Infection)), multiple sexual partners or sexual transmitted diseases, cervical cancer, immunodeficiency, chronic vaginal and vulvar irritation and smoking. Vaginal, having to do with the vagina (the birth canal). Chronic is a disease or condition that persists or progresses over a long period of time. Infection, invasion and multiplication of germs in the body. Infections can occur in any part of the body and can spread throughout the body. The germs may be bacteria, viruses, yeast, or fungi. They can cause a fever and other problems, depending on where the infection occurs. When the body`s natural defense system is strong, it can often fight the germs and prevent infection. Some cancer treatments can weaken the natural defense system. Cervical cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the cervix (the organ connecting the uterus and vagina). It is usually a slow-growing cancer that may not have symptoms but can be found with regular Pap tests (a procedure in which cells are scraped from the cervix and looked at under a microscope). Cervical cancer is almost always caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. HPV is a type of virus that can cause abnormal tissue growth (for example, warts) and other changes to cells. Infection for a long time with certain types of HPV can cause cervical cancer. HPV may also play a role in some other types of cancer, such as anal, vaginal, vulvar, penile, oropharyngeal, and squamous cell skin cancers. Also called human papillomavirus. Cervical, relating to the neck, or to the neck of any organ or structure. Cervical lymph nodes are located in the neck. Cervical cancer refers to cancer of the uterine cervix, which is the lower, narrow end (the neck ) of the uterus. Symptom is an indication that a person has a condition or disease. Some examples of symptoms are headache, fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and pain.
- The high risk of cancer in HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus)-infected individuals compared with the general population (1-5) may be due in part to the higher prevalence in this population of traditional cancer risk factors, such as smoking (6-8), alcohol use (7, 9), and oncogenic virus coinfection (10-13). However, there is increasing evidence that the elevated non-AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome)-defining cancer (NADC) risk may also be a direct consequence of HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus)-induced immunodeficiency or inflammation (14-16). With a few exceptions (17, 18), most studies evaluating cancer risk in HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus)-infected individuals have not included a demographically similar HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus)-uninfected internal comparison group but, rather, have relied on general population external comparison groups, calculating standardized incidence ratios. Human immunodeficiency virus is the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Also called HIV. Incidence is the number of new cases of a disease diagnosed each year. Inflammation, redness, swelling, pain, and/or a feeling of heat in an area of the body. This is a protective reaction to injury, disease, or irritation of the tissues. AIDS is a disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). People with AIDS are at an increased risk for developing certain cancers and for infections that usually occur only in individuals with a weak immune system. Also called acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Alcohol is a chemical substance found in beer, wine, and liquor, and some medicines, mouthwashes, household products, and essential oils (scented liquid taken from plants). Alcohol contains a carbon atom attached to a hydroxyl group (a molecule made of an oxygen atom and a hydrogen atom). HIV is the cause of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Also called human immunodeficiency virus.
- It appears that, lung cancer in the SHCS does not seem to be clearly associated with immunodeficiency or AIDS-related pulmonary disease, but seems to be attributable to heavy smoking. Lung cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. These types are diagnosed based on how the cells look under a microscope. Lung, one of a pair of organs in the chest that supplies the body with oxygen, and removes carbon dioxide from the body. Pulmonary, having to do with the lungs.
