- cancer bronchi
Bronchi is the large air passages that lead from the trachea (windpipe) to the lungs. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- One can view, lung cancer is cancer that usually starts in the lining of the bronchi (the main airways of the lungs), but also can begin in other areas of the respiratory system, including the trachea, bronchioles or alveoli. It is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. Respiratory system is the organs that are involved in breathing. These include the nose, throat, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Also called respiratory tract. Lung cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. These types are diagnosed based on how the cells look under a microscope. Alveoli, tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles (tiny branches of air tubes) in the lungs. The alveoli are where the lungs and the bloodstream exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen. Carbon dioxide in the blood passes into the lungs through the alveoli. Oxygen in the lungs passes through the alveoli into the blood. Lung, one of a pair of organs in the chest that supplies the body with oxygen, and removes carbon dioxide from the body. Trachea is the airway that leads from the larynx (voice box) to the bronchi (large airways that lead to the lungs). Also called windpipe.
- It appears that, high Dose Rate brachytherapy is used to give an added radiation dose to lung cancers that are located in the major bronchi ( the breathing passages). While increasing the dose to the tumor, HDR, due to its short treatment distance, minimizes the radiation dose given to sensitive nearby tissues such as adjacent normal lung, heart, esophagus and the spinal cord. Radiation, energy released in the form of particle or electromagnetic waves. Common sources of radiation include radon gas, cosmic rays from outer space, medical x-rays, and energy given off by a radioisotope (unstable form of a chemical element that releases radiation as it breaks down and becomes more stable). HDR is an amount of radiation that is greater than that given in typical radiation therapy. HDR is precisely directed at the tumor to avoid damaging healthy tissue, and may kill more cancer cells in fewer treatments. Also called high-dose radiation. Brachytherapy is a type of radiation therapy in which radioactive material sealed in needles, seeds, wires, or catheters is placed directly into or near a tumor. Also called implant radiation therapy, internal radiation therapy, and radiation brachytherapy. Spinal cord is a column of nerve tissue that runs from the base of the skull down the back. It is surrounded by three protective membranes, and is enclosed within the vertebrae (back bones). The spinal cord and the brain make up the central nervous system, and spinal cord nerves carry most messages between the brain and the rest of the body. Tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue that results when cells divide more than they should or do not die when they should. Tumors may be benign (not cancer), or malignant (cancer). Also called neoplasm. Esophagus is the muscular tube through which food passes from the throat to the stomach.
- It is clear that, most lung cancer starts in the lining of the bronchi, although it can also start in other parts of the lung. Lung cancer often takes many years to develop.
