- cancer primary care
Primary care, health services that meet most basic health care needs over time. Primary care includes physical exams, treatment of common medical conditions, and preventive care such as immunizations and screenings. Primary care doctors are usually the first health professionals patients see for basic medical care. They may refer a patient to a specialist if needed. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- You can recognize, previously the site specific groups had no primary care input and might come up with policies that GPs felt they had not been involved in or, worse, that they felt were inappropriate. An early piece of work, for instance, may look at reconciling the different arrangements the acute trusts have for following up women treated for breast cancer and for bridging a gap in attitudes between primary and secondary care about what sort of follow up is best for patients. The site specific groups now have a group of engaged clinicians to bounce ideas off. Acute, symptoms or signs that begin and worsen quickly; not chronic. Breast, glandular organ located on the chest. The breast is made up of connective tissue, fat, and breast tissue that contains the glands that can make milk. Also called mammary gland. Breast cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple) and lobules (glands that make milk). It occurs in both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare.
- You can determine, bruce Eden, who is GP adviser to the Greater Midlands Cancer Network (GMCN), has found that the best way to get to GPs initially is through cultivating links with the PCTs, as GMCN covers eight PCTs and nearly 400 practices. He is currently working on the implementation of the RCGP (Royal College of General Practitioners)/NCAT national audit of cancer diagnosis in primary care. The best performing PCTs in the audit are those with a clinical champion, or someone else who took a particular interest in the audit and had regular contact with the practices. A couple of PCTs just sent out the paperwork, and had a lower participation rate. Diagnosis is the process of identifying a disease, such as cancer, from its signs and symptoms. Practitioner is a person who works in a specific profession. For example, a doctor or nurse is a healthcare practitioner. Clinical, having to do with the examination and treatment of patients.
- One can view, previous hospital based studies have found Dukes A and D cancers to cost less than intermediate stage cancers but the cost to primary care has not been established and is likely to be considerable. Our study found that GP costs increased with advancing stage. Stage is the extent of a cancer in the body. Staging is usually based on the size of the tumor, whether lymph nodes contain cancer, and whether the cancer has spread from the original site to other parts of the body.
