Immunodeficiency is the decreased ability of the body to fight infections and other diseases. Lipid, fat. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). People with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome are at an increased risk for developing certain cancers and for infections that usually occur only in individuals with a weak immune system. Also called AIDS. Syndrome is a set of symptoms or conditions that occur together and suggest the presence of a certain disease or an increased chance of developing the disease.
