    1. cancer pten

PTEN is a protein that helps control many cell functions, including cell division and cell death. Mutations (changes) in the gene that makes PTEN are found in many types of cancer and other diseases. It is a type of tumor suppressor protein. Also called PTEN tyrosine phosphatase. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.

The PI also analyzes the data and reports the results of the trial or grant research. Also called principal investigator.

      • It`s obvious that, FISH analysis of 107 prostate cancers shows that PTEN genomic deletion is associated with poor clinical outcome. FISH is a laboratory technique used to look at genes or chromosomes in cells and tissues. Pieces of DNA that contain a fluorescent dye are made in the laboratory and added to cells or tissues on a glass slide. When these pieces of DNA bind to specific genes or areas of chromosomes on the slide, they light up when viewed under a microscope with a special light. Also called fluorescence in situ hybridization. Analysis is a process in which anything complex is separated into simple or less complex parts. Outcome is a specific result or effect that can be measured. Examples of outcomes include decreased pain, reduced tumor size, and improvement of disease. Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate surrounds the part of the urethra (the tube that empties the bladder) just below the bladder, and produces a fluid that forms part of the semen. Clinical, having to do with the examination and treatment of patients.

      • It appears to be, the cell of origin of CSCs in various cancers caused by PTEN loss is largely unknown. Cell is the individual unit that makes up the tissues of the body. All living things are made up of one or more cells.
