    1. cancer abve

ABVE is an abbreviation for a chemotherapy combination used with radiation therapy to treat childhood Hodgkin lymphoma. It includes the drugs doxorubicin hydrochloride (Adriamycin), bleomycin sulfate, vincristine sulfate, and etoposide. Also called ABVE regimen, DBVE, and DBVE regimen. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.

      • Evidently, other types of laryngeal cancer include: lymphoepithelioma, spindle cell carcinoma, verrucous cancer, undifferentiated carcinoma and cancers of the lymph nodes, called lymphoma. Laryngeal, having to do with the larynx. Cell is the individual unit that makes up the tissues of the body. All living things are made up of one or more cells. Laryngeal cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the larynx (area of the throat that contains the vocal cords and is used for breathing, swallowing, and talking). Most laryngeal cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in flat cells lining the larynx). Lymphoepithelioma is a type of cancer that begins in the tissues covering the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose). Undifferentiated is a term used to describe cells or tissues that do not have specialized ( mature ) structures or functions. Undifferentiated cancer cells often grow and spread quickly. Lymphoma, cancer that begins in cells of the immune system. There are two basic categories of lymphomas. One kind is Hodgkin lymphoma, which is marked by the presence of a type of cell called the Reed-Sternberg cell. The other category is non-Hodgkin lymphomas, which includes a large, diverse group of cancers of immune system cells. Non-Hodgkin lymphomas can be further divided into cancers that have an indolent (slow-growing) course and those that have an aggressive (fast-growing) course. These subtypes behave and respond to treatment differently. Both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas can occur in children and adults, and prognosis and treatment depend on the stage and the type of cancer. Carcinoma, cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs.

      • Finally, apparently, it appears moreover, contrary to the unequivocal assertion of the title of the Tebbi et al article, that they themselves are aware of the uncertainty surrounding their claim since they state, we have not observed this cohort of children [with Hodgkin`s disease] long enough to know whether dexrazoxane provided cardiopulmonary protection [which was the objective of the trial], nor were these studies designed for statistical comparison of leukemic and secondary malignant neoplasm risk ? This disclaimer is presumably meant to explain why they found only one of four statistical tests of cumulative incidence using survival analysis techniques, which is the standard analysis for this type of study, had any degree of statistical significance for the appearance of SMNs or AML/MDS when comparing children with Hodgkin`s disease receiving ABVE or ABVE-PC with or without dexrazoxane. Moreover, the single statistically significant finding in these analyses was in a secondary analysis of any SMN as a first event, and neither of the primary analyses within a competing-risks framework showed any statistically significant difference between the dexrazoxane groups. Cohort is a group of individuals who share a common trait, such as birth year. In medicine, a cohort is a group that is part of a clinical trial or study and is observed
over a period of time. ABVE-PC is an abbreviation for a chemotherapy combination used with radiation therapy to treat childhood Hodgkin lymphoma. It includes the drugs doxorubicin hydrochloride (Adriamycin), bleomycin sulfate, vincristine sulfate, etoposide, prednisone, and cyclophosphamide. Also called ABVE-PC regimen, DBVE-PC, and DBVE-PC regimen. Statistically significant, describes a mathematical measure of difference between groups. The difference is said to be statistically significant if it is greater than what might be expected to happen by chance alone. Also called significant. Dexrazoxane is the active ingredient in a drug used to treat severe side effects caused by certain anticancer drugs. Under the brand name Totect it is used to treat the toxic effects of an anticancer drug that leaks from a vein into surrounding tissue and causes tissue damage. Under the brand name Zinecard it is used to reduce heart damage in women given doxorubicin for breast cancer that has spread. Dexrazoxane is also being studied in the treatment of cancer. It is a type of cardioprotective agent, a type of chemoprotective agent, and a type of topoisomerase inhibitor. Cardiopulmonary, having to do with the heart and lungs. Analysis is a process in which anything complex is separated into simple or less complex parts. AML is an aggressive (fast-growing) disease in which too many myeloblasts (immature white blood cells that are not lymphoblasts) are found in the bone marrow and blood. Also called acute myeloblastic leukemia, acute myelogenous leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, and ANLL. Malignant, cancerous. Malignant cells can invade and destroy nearby tissue and spread to other parts of the body. Significant is in statistics, describes a mathematical measure of difference between groups. The difference is said to be significant if it is greater than what might be expected to happen by chance alone. Also called statistically significant. Neoplasm is an abnormal mass of tissue that results when cells divide more than they should or do not die when they should. Neoplasms may be benign (not cancer), or malignant (cancer). Also called tumor. Incidence is the number of new cases of a disease diagnosed each year.
