- cancer pyroxamide
Pyroxamide is a substance that is being studied in the treatment of cancer. It belongs to the family of drugs called histone deacetylase inhibitors. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- One can conclude that, it has been observed during experiments when Pyroxamide is injected inside the mice, the prostate cancer cells have attained significant suppression and retardation. Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system. The prostate surrounds the part of the urethra (the tube that empties the bladder) just below the bladder, and produces a fluid that forms part of the semen. Significant is in statistics, describes a mathematical measure of difference between groups. The difference is said to be significant if it is greater than what might be expected to happen by chance alone. Also called statistically significant. Prostate cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum). Prostate cancer usually occurs in older men.
- Finally, you can recognize, we (5) and others (29) have shown that this effect on serum PSA is attributable, at least in part, to the induction of PSA mRNA expression in the tumors by these agents. Because of its biological activity on tumor cell growth and differentiation, and its activity in studies performed by the National Cancer Institute, pyroxamide has been chosen as a lead compound for development as an antitumor agent and is currently in Phase I trials for the treatment of solid tumors. Compound is in science, a substance that is made up of more than one ingredient. Differentiation is in biology, describes the processes by which immature cells become mature cells with specific functions. In cancer, this describes how much or how little tumor tissue looks like the normal tissue it came from. Well-differentiated cancer cells look more like normal cells and tend to grow and spread more slowly than poorly differentiated or undifferentiated cancer cells. Differentiation is used in tumor grading systems, which are different for each type of cancer. PSA is a protein made by the prostate gland and found in the blood. PSA blood levels may be higher than normal in men who have prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or infection or inflammation of the prostate gland. Also called prostate-specific antigen. Serum is the clear liquid part of the blood that remains after blood cells and clotting proteins have been removed. Antitumor, having to do with stopping abnormal cell growth. MRNA is a type of RNA found in cells. mRNA molecules carry the genetic information needed to make proteins. They carry the information from the DNA in the nucleus of the cell to the cytoplasm where the proteins are made. Also called messenger RNA. Biological, pertaining to biology or to life and living things. In medicine, refers to a substance made from a living organism or its products. Biologicals may be used to prevent, diagnose, treat or relieve of symptoms of a disease. For example, antibodies, interleukins, and vaccines are biologicals. Biological also refers to parents and children who are related by blood. National Cancer Institute is the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, is the Federal Government`s principal agency for cancer research. The National Cancer Institute conducts, coordinates, and funds cancer research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer. Access the National Cancer Institute Web site at http://www.cancer.gov. Also called NCI.
