Psychosocial is in medicine, describes the psychological (emotional) and social parts of a disease and its treatment. Some of the psychosocial parts of cancer are its effects on patients` feelings, moods, beliefs, the way they cope, and relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. Throat cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the pharynx (the hollow tube (i.e., tuba) inside the neck (i.e., cervix, or collum) that starts behind the nose (i.e., nasus) and ends at the top of the windpipe (i.e., trachea (i.e., windpipe)) and esophagus). Throat cancer includes cancer of the nasopharynx (i.e., pars nasalis pharyngis, or epipharynx) (the upper part of the throat behind the nose), the oropharynx (i.e., pars oralis pharyngis, or oral part of pharynx) (the middle (i.e., medius) part of the pharynx), and the hypopharynx (i.e., laryngopharynx) (the bottom part of the pharynx). Cancer of the larynx (voice (i.e., vox) box) may also be included as a type of throat cancer. Most throat cancers are squamous (i.e., scaly) cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in thin, flat cells that look like fish scales). Cell is the individual unit that makes up the tissues of the body. All living things are made up of one or more cells. Also called pharyngeal (i.e., pharyngeus) cancer. Throat is the hollow tube inside the neck that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (the tube that goes to the stomach (i.e., gaster, or ventriculus)). The throat is about 5 inches long, depending on body size. Also called pharynx. Infection, invasion and multiplication of germs in the body. Infections can occur in any part of the body and can spread throughout the body. The germs may be bacteria, viruses, yeast, or fungi. They can cause a fever (i.e., febris, or pyrexia) and other problems, depending on where the infection occurs. When the body`s natural defense system is strong, it can often fight the germs and prevent infection. Some cancer treatments can weaken the natural defense system.

Tobacco is a plant with leaves that have high levels of the addictive chemical nicotine. The leaves may be smoked (in cigarettes, cigars, and pipes), applied to the gums (as dipping and chewing tobacco), or inhaled (as snuff). Tobacco leaves also contain many cancer-causing chemicals, and tobacco use and exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke have been linked to many types of cancer and other diseases. The scientific name is Nicotiana tabacum. Alcohol is a chemical substance found in beer, wine (i.e., vinous liquor), and liquor, and some medicines, mouthwashes, household products, and essential (i.e., intrinsic) oils (scented liquid taken from plants). Alcohol contains a carbon atom attached to a hydroxyl group (a molecule made of an oxygen atom and a hydrogen atom).
