Pulmonary, having to do with the lungs. Infection, invasion and multiplication of germs in the body. Infections can occur in any part of the body and can spread throughout the body. The germs may be bacteria, viruses, yeast, or fungi. They can cause a fever and other problems, depending on where the infection occurs. When the body`s natural defense system is strong, it can often fight the germs and prevent infection. Some cancer treatments can weaken the natural defense system. Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade nearby tissues. Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is a cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is a cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers are cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Also called malignancy.
Preview- One can assume that, acute purulent exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and Chlamydia pneumoniae infection. Chronic is a disease or condition that persists or progresses over a long period of time. Acute, symptoms or signs that begin and worsen quickly; not chronic. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a type of lung disease marked by permanent damage to tissues in the lungs, making it hard to breathe. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease includes chronic bronchitis, in which the bronchi (large air passages) are inflamed and scarred, and emphysema, in which the alveoli (tiny air sacs) are damaged. It develops over many years and is usually caused by cigarette smoking. Also called COPD.
- Lung cancer risk is significantly increased among persons with AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) (PWA), and increased smoking may not explain all of the elevated risk, suggesting a role for additional cofactors. We investigated whether AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome)-defining pulmonary infections (recurrent pneumonia, Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, and pulmonary tuberculosis) affected the risk of subsequent lung cancer over 10 years after AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) onset among 322,675 PWA, whose records were linked with cancer registries in 11 US regions. We assessed lung cancer hazard ratios (HRs) using Cox regression and indirectly adjusted HRs for confounding by smoking. Lung cancer, cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. These types are diagnosed based on how the cells look under a microscope. Regression is a decrease in the size of a tumor or in the extent of cancer in the body. AIDS is a disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). People with AIDS are at an increased risk for developing certain cancers and for infections that usually occur only in individuals with a weak immune system. Also called acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. ALL is an aggressive (fast-growing) type of leukemia (blood cancer) in which too many lymphoblasts (immature white blood cells) are found in the blood and bone marrow. Also called acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia. Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a specific type of bacteria that spreads from one person to another through the air. Tuberculosis can affect many parts of the body, but most often affects the lungs. A person may not have symptoms of tuberculosis for years, but they may appear when the patient becomes ill with a serious condition like diabetes, AIDS, or cancer. Tuberculosis can usually be treated and cured with antibiotics. Also called TB. Lung, one of a pair of organs in the chest that supplies the body with oxygen, and removes carbon dioxide from the body.
- It`s possible to conclude that, pulmonary infections can mimic or occasionally co-exist with pulmonary neoplasms. In order to determine the frequency and nature of these infections, we conducted a retrospective analysis, covering a 3-year period, of patients who were referred to our center with presumed lung cancer but turned out to have pulmonary infection instead. The overwhelming majority of patients (93.3%) referred to rule out lung cancer were documented as having a neoplastic process, and only 1.3% had an infection. Analysis is a process in which anything complex is separated into simple or less complex parts. Retrospective, looking back at events that have already taken place.
