Most bladder cancers are transitional cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in cells that normally make up the inner lining of the bladder). Other types include squamous cell carcinoma (cancer that begins in thin, flat cells) and adenocarcinoma (cancer that begins in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids). The cells that form squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma develop in the inner lining of the bladder as a result of chronic irritation and inflammation. Adjuvant therapy, additional cancer treatment given after the primary treatment to lower the risk that the cancer will come back. Adjuvant therapy may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, or biological therapy. Mitomycin C is a drug used to treat advanced cancer of the stomach and pancreas that has not gotten better with other treatment. It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Mitomycin C comes from bacteria. It damages the cell`s DNA and may kill cancer cells. It is a type of anticancer antibiotic. Also called Mitozytrex and Mutamycin.
